Rosco Effects Glass gobos are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate most theatrical lighting fixtures. Gobos are are like stencils for profile fixtures, ellipsoidal reflector spotlights (ERS), and hard-edged moving lights, allowing light to shine through certain areas and project a pattern. You can increase clarity and contrast of the pattern by adding a donut; which is color frame with a smaller hole, acts like a fixed aperture to increase depth of field.
Q: What size will it be on my stage?
A: The size of a projected gobo image depends on the beam angle of your fixture, a larger beam angle will increase the gobo size diameter, however the resulting image will appear dimmer (with same fixture, since the light is spread over a larger area).
Q: Can I make the image sharper?
A: To improve the sharpness of these projections, a device called a "donut" can be used. A donut is an insert that fits into the color frame slot of ERS fixtures that has a hole in the center which reduces the aperture and sharpens the output of the fixture. There are multiple sizes of donut "holes", the general rule is to match the size of the hole with the size of the gobo to achieve optimal sharpness. This process is similar to how the human eye sharpens focus when squinting. While using a donut can result in a slight reduction in brightness, many lighting designers find that the increased sharpness is worth the tradeoff. Overall, donuts are a useful tool for achieving high-quality gobo projections in theatrical lighting design.
A: The other option is to swap your standard lenses for sharper ones. Contact us and we'll help see what options are available for you.
Q: Can change the color of the image?
A: You can change color of the projected image by adding a sheet of lighting gel, or by changing colors on most LED fixtures. *only on metal and B/W Glass gobos, not advised for full color glass gobos

Our full policy is in our Terms and Conditions page. Please Note: Due to unprecedented raw material and component shortages for finished goods throughout our industry, lead times for items that aren't currently in stock are longer than normal and cannot be guaranteed at present. Equipment needed by a firm date must be noted at time of order. While VLS cannot guarantee delivery by those dates, we will work with our suppliers to do everything possible to meet deadlines. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
Online orders received by noon Eastern time typically ship the same day. If your delivery due date is critical please note your due date in the order messages at checkout, and then contact us.
Why Noon? Well, while we stock quite a few items in our warehouse, many items we have dropshipped by our vendors. They need time to process the order, so to ensure that we can get the order to the vendor and give them enough time to ship it out the same day, we need to get the order to them as early as possible in the day.
Please also note that the shipping rates for many items we sell are weight and dimension based, as this is the method that FedEx and UPS use to rate the package's cost to ship.
We understand things happen and items occasionally need to be returned. To make things as hassle-free as possible, we have dedicated pages about our Returns Policy (what’s eligible to be returned) and our Return Process (how to go about returning eligible items)
